It’s perfectly natural to be nervous before your first driving lesson. But that isn’t a reason enough to not give it your best.
Follow these quick tips to prepare for your first driving lesson and get some ideas on how to learn the most from your time behind the wheel.
What You Should Do Before Your Driving Lesson
Get a Provisional License
Provisional licenses are necessary for your first lesson. Apply for your license at least a week before you plan to begin training so that you get it in time.
Find the Time
Driving isn’t something you can learn in 10-minute breaks during the day. Take sufficient time out of your day and dedicate it to learning and benefiting from your lessons. Keep in mind that this is a new skill you need to acquire.
Adjust your body Clock
Are you a morning person, or a night owl? Find out the time when you feel most alert and fresh and book your lessons accordingly. You’ll learn much faster and more efficiently.
Ask Questions
The instructor is your teacher. Ask them all the questions you need and learn as much as you can about this new skill, even if you think they’re silly. The more you learn now, the less of a chance you’ll have of making a mistake later.
Wear the Right Clothes and Shoes
Comfortable clothing is crucial. Wear suitable clothes that won’t restrict you movement and wear sensible shoes. No flip-flops, no heels and no boots. Wear flexible shoes for the right grip.
Have the Right Experience
You can’t learn driving by watching others drive. First-hand experience is always different. Be cautious behind the wheel, stay within the speed limit and don’t be afraid to ask questions or make mistakes. You’re a first-timer so your instructor will not expect you to ace your lesson on the first try. Don’t be too hard on yourself.
