Norway
Norway is seventh on this list with 3.8 deaths per 100,000 people. Norwegian traffic is considered one of the safest in the world. Traffic is calm and light. Drivers here are disciplined and keep to the law. Aggressive driving tactics are considered an offense in Norway like overtaking. Seatbelts are compulsory, while the use of a horn is only for emergency purposes. The helmet laws in Norway, on the other hand, are considered inadequate according to the WHO.
Spain
With 3.7 deaths per 100,000 people, Spain is considered to have some of the safest roads. The country observes strict drunk driving laws. The permissible blood alcohol level here is only 0.5mg, making it more stringent than the UK. New drivers are only allowed 0.1mg!
Netherlands
The Netherlands has a reported death rate (due to road accidents) of 3.4 every 100,000 people. Seatbelts are compulsory for all passengers and the minimum legal age to drive a vehicle is 18 years.
Switzerland
Switzerland is known to have some of the safest roads in the world. Their population is relatively less making driving there a dream! 3.3 vehicle deaths are reported per 100,000 years. Like the Netherlands, the Swiss are known for their stringent drunk driving laws. Children under the age of 7 are required to be put in a car seat.
United Kingdom
This may come as a surprise by the UK is known to be the third safest country to drive in. despite its population and size, the reported vehicle deaths are 2.9 per 100,000. The UK is also known to be one of the most difficult countries to pass a driving test in. New drivers are required to reverse around a corner as well as go through a written test and other tasks.
Sweden
Sweden is on the second spot of this list with 2.8 deaths per 100,000. Unlike other countries, drivers in Sweden are required to keep their headlights on at all times. Due to seasonal changes, it is mandatory for vehicles to use studded tires for winter. Their high vehicle safety standards and strict drunk driving laws make their roads so much safer.
Micronesia
This little country comprises thousands of small islands in the western Pacific Ocean. It is also known to be the safest place in the world to drive. The country reports 2 road deaths annually.
