While driving, you have to look out for your own safety, the safety of those driving with you and around you, and you have to be careful to follow the driving laws set by the state.

With practice, comes confidence. But there’s one small thing that you should remember whenever you get behind the wheel—and that is to keep in mind where you are driving.

Each state in the US has a slightly different set of rules and it serves well to be acquainted with them before you take charge of the steering. If Arizona is your next destination, here are some rules that you should know when driving here:

Speed Limit

Let’s start with the one factor that gets people the most tickets—the speed limit. If you’re going interstate, then the standard speed limit in Arizona would be around 55–65 mph for roads that pass through major cities.

But if you’re passing between major cities, then you may go as high as 75 mph. Highways, however, can be a slight exception to this rule.

If you’re on a highway that has no work zones or lower speed limits, it’s implied that you can go around 9 mph over the speed limit. But you might be stopped if you’re driving aggressively and erratically.

Weather Conditions

Arizona is a state where you can expect rain at any time—especially the monsoon season, of course. And monsoons can be dangerous while driving. Arizona isn’t typically known for natural calamities like tornados, hurricanes and floods, but the monsoon season here can be a little severe.

During the season, you can expect heavy rainfall, strong winds and unexpected dust storms. Needless to say, driving in these conditions can be extremely unsafe. So the next time you get out on the roads of Arizona, we suggest that you take a look at the weather conditions before heading out.

Driving Under Influence (DUI)

Although this isn’t specific to Arizona, DUI is dangerous; you shouldn’t be driving a vehicle if your blood alcohol concentration (BAC) is 0.08% or more. Should you get caught, you will be fined (or incarcerated) for DUI. But even if your BAC reading is below this range, the officer may give you a ticket if they feel you might be impaired.

At Jacob’s Driving and Traffic School, we teach our students about all the rules and regulations they should abide by when on the road. If you or someone you know is struggling to find their confidence and courage to get behind the wheel, book them a lesson with us!
